Sky News host Paul Murray says a park ranger who worked as a guard in Victoria’s hotel quarantine program revealed his training for the job was “apparently high in diversity training and low in health training.”
An independent inquiry is examining whether the mismanagement of hotel quarantine facilities triggered the city's second wave of coronavirus infections after a genome sequencing report revealed the disease spread from security guards.
A park ranger appeared the Inquiry into Hotel Quarantine and confirmed the training he received involved one session regarding usage of the COVIDSafe app and another session on equity and diversity. He confirmed neither session gave him training on infection control or told him what his role was as an authorised officer. “So you can’t do anything about how to stop the virus, but we’ve taught you how to stop racism, the real scourge of 2020,” Mr Murray said.
