House of the Dragon's finale came just short of Rings of Power on the Nielsen streaming chart, showing just how much it's watched on HBO's linear channel.

Nielsen streaming numbers reveal viewership of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finale managed to outpace the House of the Dragon finale. In terms of people, both shows saw big numbers when they premiered. HBO reported approximately 10 million watched House of the Dragon episode 1 the evening it premiered, while Amazon reported reaching 25 million viewers in Rings of Power's first 24 hours.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY As the finales for both House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power have gone by, however, Nielsen Streaming, per TheWrap, reports that the Game of Thrones spinoff fell short of the Lord of the Rings series in terms of streaming minutes during its finale window. According to Nielsen's Top 10 chart for October 17-23, House of the Dragon came in at 1 billion streaming minutes, while Rings of Power topped out at 1.

Those watching high fantasy now have options, and, by the looks of the Nielsen numbers, they're taking advantage of that. A big hole was left in the genre when Game of Thrones ended: there was no successor to go toward. Not only are there two to choose from, but the success of Rings of Power and House of the Dragon should be an indicator that high fantasy is a genre worth investing in.

As for the numbers, fans of House of the Dragon should not be disappointed. While the numbers for the finale fell short, the show overall holds up and remains in Nielsen's Top 10 chart and the Game of Thrones show seemed to far outreach the Lord of the Rings series' impact during their respective runs. Fans of The Rings of Power however do have bragging rights when it comes to finale numbers, as they rewatched more or tuned in to The Rings of Power a bit longer.
