HouseOfTheDragon's Milly Alcock weighs in on whether RhaenyraTargaryen actually wants to sit the Iron Throne: 'I don’t necessarily think she wants the responsibility of being queen... she wants change and she sees the throne as an avenue for change.'

House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock offers her thoughts on whether her character, Rhaenyra, truly wants to sit on the Iron Throne as Queen of Westeros. Taking place almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon chronicles the events of the Targaryen civil war. The show, which premiered in August, has already proven to be a big hit, boasting the biggest premiere in HBO's history and earning strong reviews from audiences and critics.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY House of the Dragon introduces a host of new characters, including King Viserys Targaryen , Alicent Hightower , Deamon Targaryen , Otto Hightower , and Corlys Valerion , among others. The premiere episode sees Viserys, lacking a male heir, name Rhaenyra his successor, which baffles other lords in the realm.

“I think she’s just like 'f--k it to the entire game.' I think Rhaenynra wants change within the world, but I don’t necessarily think she wants the responsibility of being queen. But she wants change and she sees the throne as an avenue for change so like, 'if I can f--king get on that throne, things are going to be different.' So, yeah, she’s just angry that no one listens to her. No one takes her seriously.

Upon being named the heir to the Iron Throne in House of the Dragon's premiere episode, Rhaenyra has been viewed increasingly as a political pawn, both by her father and others. A major point of contention for Rhaenyra is her father's push for her to marry, with Viserys repeatedly explaining that marriage as ruler is more about what political advantages it can give you rather than any personal feelings.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Rhaenyra, but it's already been confirmed that at around the halfway mark in the series there will be a significant time jump. This House of the Dragon time jump will see Emma D'Arcy take over the role of Rhaenyra and seems poised to introduce some major changes to the show, potentially including the character's relationship to the Iron Throne.
