Housing action to tackle Pendle's damp and mould-ridden homes where residents have no hot water

Council environmental health staff have had to do some work themselves then pursue landlords to recover the financial costs involved, a report says. Pendle councillors recently asked for a report on the work and powers of environmental health, housing and other council staff to improve the quality of houses rented by tenants.
The borough’s housing, which includes a large number of Victorian terraced homes, has been discussed at various council meetings over recent months. Concerns have been raised about issues such as cold, damp, heating costs, poor home insulation and over-crowding.Then came the recent national debate about the health risks of mould and damp, following the death of Rochdale toddler Awab Ishak in a housing association home.
