The Houston Chronicle won the Newsroom of the Year honor in the state’s annual journalism contest, marking the fourth year in a row the Chronicle was recognized as the best news organization in Texas.

Chronicle executive editor Maria Reeve thanked the judges for honoring the newsroom’s work in providing the community with important journalism. Tom Fox, the lead sports page designer at the Chronicle, on Sunday won Star Designer of the Year among all newspapers in the state. Sarah Smith, the Chronicle’s former housing reporter, won third place in the Freedom of Information category forThe Chronicle on Sunday also won three Headliners Foundation Charles E. Green Awards, recognizing the best journalism among all newspapers in Texas. The Texas Managing Editors contest is divided among four divisions of news organizations based on size.
