Houston observes National Night Out
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner speaks during a press conference during the annual National Night Out at the Burnett Bayland Park location Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022 in Houston, TX.Houston City Councilman Edward Pollard didn't remember going to any National Night Out events when he was growing up in southwest Houston, not far from the precinct he now represents.
"Over the past couple of years, we've been able to get more buy-in from community groups and much more engagement," Pollard said."People are working together. Because of that me have more programs, more services and more trust." Violent crimes rates in Houston are down this year, after surging in 2020 and 2021. But some residents said they feel that crime still a problem.
