Houston ISD is recognizing Eid as an official spring holiday and is giving the community the Muslim holy day off for the first time in district history.
The Houston ISD teacher won't have to worry about that decision this Friday, as the state's largest school system is recognizing Eid as an official spring holiday,that will receive one of its holy days off for the first time.

Sayed Omid Denarkhail, an Afghan émigré whose younger siblings attend Wisdom High School, said he hadn't initially realized Eid was the reason for Friday's day off. Instead of spending the day apart from his siblings and children, who attend a charter school that also has the day off, Denarkhail, 27, will take them to the mosque for morning prayers before heading to a relative's house in new holiday garb for a celebration with family.
