The man who was shot and killed early Friday in Houston's South Side has been identified by family as rapper Snootie Wild, whose real name is LePreston Porter.Ivory Duke Williams, 22, is accused of killing LaPreston Porter, 36, who went by the stage name Snootie Wild.
The shooting happened Feb. 25 in the 4200 block of Alice Street, police said. Porter was found shot and lying injured in a ditch when police responded to the address to a report of a shooting. He died at a hospital on Feb. 26.Police on Thursday said that the events leading up to Porter's death started with a woman who had gotten her vehicle stuck in a ditch.
The woman ran from the scene and said she heard gunshots, but didn't know that Porter had been shot. The woman called 9-1-1 while several other people drove away from the scene of the shooting. Police didn't immediately say how they connected Williams to the shooting. Williams was arrested by a Houston Police Department SWAT team Wednesday.
Porter lived in Houston but was tied to Memphis’ hip hop scene. He gained widespread popularity in 2014 for his single, “Yayo.”
