A popular Houston community subreddit page has gone dark as it protests Reddit company...
Social networking forum Reddit is following moves from companies such as Twitter to increase fees in an effort to monetize more of its platform., have participated in a coordinated protest as the company tries to impose changes to monetize access to its data.
The company plans to charge the outside developers for the application programming interface, or A.P.I., which has been used by large companies to develop artificial intelligence,. Beginning in July, third-party developers, big and small, will have to start paying for access to Reddit consumers' data. The price for the data is causing some apps to shut down when the charges go into effect.
“We stand in solidarity with numerous people who need access to the API including bot developers, people with accessibility needs and 3rd party app users,” r/Houston moderators posted.
