But a busted coverage involving cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and safety Jonathan Owens led to a 35-yard completion from Wilson to wide receiver Courtland Sutton up the left side of the field. The Texans were playing a Cover-2 defense, with Stingley responsible for the underneath throw and Owens responsible for the deep half of the field. But Sutton found a wide-open pocket between Owens and Stingley.
It was a critical moment in the game — one that gave the Broncos life. Prior to that, they hadn’t been able to get much going in their passing game. Said Owens: “Cover-2. We've just gotta play better with our eyes. Stay deep and play vision. It’s one play, though. The one play doesn’t define us as a defense.”
