Michael Skubala sits down with Daniel Storey to discuss his journey to Lincoln, his ambitions for the club and his managerial career to date
Reading fans to stage protest at England match over football's 'negligent' ownersmanagement was atypical. You know the three likely pathways by now: the British former professional footballer who does their badges and gets their chance; the foreign coach who wants a crack at English football due to its heritage and tradition; the accidental manager, perhaps who started as the interim and stuck around.
“Whether it’s teaching or coaching, the harder I have worked the more likely I have been to get the outcomes I want. So you keep working to your maximum.”Still, the point on the CV stands up. The background in education provides experience at working with youth players, but also informs your methods of delivery. Skubala says that it gives you an appreciation of the importance of process.
His positions and promotions within futsal and at Loughborough brought him to the centre of the Football Association’s attention. That led to a role within, the overhaul of coaching education to oversee a technical revolution that would attempt to change how England developed its elite footballers.
And Lincoln, he believes, is a great fit: a development club accepting of its strengths, a community club that is relentlessly committed to growth.
