It sounded like a good idea at the time, and the 50-strong bar was in raptures when Staines crossed for a first-half four-pointer and pointed straight to his mates sitting just metres away in seats at Kogarah's Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.
"We had about 50 people and it got busier and busier as the afternoon went on," said the Post Office Hotel's manager Matt Coleman, admitting the premises was still capped in numbers due to the COVID-19 crisis."But it was loud. The Post Office Hotel has been a long-time sponsor of the Magpies, with Coleman the club's current president and Staines' uncle Charlie the first-grade coach.Staines and fellow Panthers teammate Matt Burton, a Dubbo CYMS product, waged a fierce battle on grand final day a couple of years ago with both so promising they were named in the under-18s and first-grade teams.
