Three years after private owners bought the neglected Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary in the Adelaide Hills, platypus are nesting in a swamp due to the engine's pumping power.
"When we arrived, the body of water, which is affectionately called 'the swamp', was bone dry, absolutely desolate," Mr Cobbold said.
"When we arrived we had a pH level of 6.1, which is an acid bath, so John bought us 14 tonnes of agricultural lime, and we put that all the way through the creek system," Mr Cobbold said."It's dissolving the lime and the pH is up to an average of about 7.5 but we're aiming for 8.4." Like many tourism destinations, Warrawong had to temporarily close again earlier this year due to coronavirus social restrictions.
