Samsung has copped a lot of flak for making many of the same design decisions as its rival for its new earbuds. But, as users, we’re better off for it.
I daresay, it’s mostly a blessing for people like you and me, who are locked into ecosystems with technical barriers around them, often preventing us from choosing some feature, function, or look we want.Imagine a world where Apple hadn’t copied Samsung’s oversized phone screens, for instance. Anyone unwilling to switch to Android would be stuck with 3.5-inch iPhones.
What are the odds the next AirPods Pro will have a clear plastic lid on the change case? It’s a good idea, so why not? Squeezing the stem to play or pause your music, to skip forwards or backwards, is much easier than tapping on the body of the earbud, the way you have to with older Samsung models. Other than the Sony buds having slightly bigger and better-defined bass, there’s not a lot to separate them, not to my ears anyway. Over the years, I’ve come to believe that for most of us, all the top-tier earbuds sound great, and it’s other features like fit and controls that separate them. And, boy, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro do have a lot of other features. More than any earbuds we’ve ever reviewed.
