A look back at some historical halloween weather events
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Unlike many other regions in the USA that have to concern themselves with snowfall on October 31st, Jacksonville has never experienced a snowy Halloween. However, there is a possibility of seeing some snow in December, as exemplified by a video capturing a snowstorm in 1989. Nonetheless, this lack of snow doesn't imply that Jacksonville doesn't experience chilly temperatures.
The coldest Halloween on record for the city was in 1993 when the temperature plummeted to 38 degrees. On the other end of the spectrum, the warmest Halloween on record was in 2019, with the mercury soaring to 91 degrees. However, this warmth was short-lived, as a potent cold front swiftly descended, causing temperatures to drop later in the evening. Some areas witnessed an astonishing nearly 50-degree temperature drop in just 24 hours.
A vivid historical example of this threat occurred in 1887 when a tropical storm passed just south of Jacksonville before veering off toward the coast. This storm caused at least four shipwrecks along the coastline, extending from Florida to the Carolinas. It became known as the"1887 Halloween Hurricane."
