The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection starts its much-anticipated public hearings on Thursday, and Biden and his aides are carefully keeping their distance from the committee’s work.
Though the president has increasingly used a contrast with Trump to frame the stakes of the midterm elections, White House aides believe the president’s voice shouldn’t be used to provide running commentary on day-to-day procedural developments in the investigation.

The evidence presented and testimony given could impact how aggressively Garland looks into Trump and his inner circle’s connections to the insurrection and other attempts to subvert the 2020 vote count.
