The coronavirus outbreak which has killed over 900 people globally has now dealt a potential hammer blow to the National Hockey League., the NHL is facing a shortage of hockey sticks due to the deadly virus, with approximately 75 percent of the players using sticks which are made in Chinese factories.
"A lot of players, especially the better, more skilled, scoring-type players, they're worried about where their next batch of sticks is coming from. It's a big problem," McGuire said.McGuire also added that team equipment managers were worried about the potential shortage of sticks, with one team's players "using a one-stick limit for practice and maybe two for games".
One such company is Bauer Hockey, which produces its pro sticks in China, and the company's CEO Ed Kinnaly said Bauer was monitoring the "fluid and dynamic global situation". One player affected by the coronavirus outbreak has been Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk, who uses a new Bauer Nexus ADV model, which the company cannot produce until the outbreak ends.
