Tasmanian woman Dee Stokes planned her twin sister's funeral and knows how difficult it can be. She's trying to change societal perceptions on what send offs look like, starting with a party at the pub.
A group of friends have gathered for a "death-planning party" to make plans for their funerals and fill out the documents together, to make it a less "daunting" experience.
But, that's exactly what this group of friends discussed when they held a "death planning party" at a pub in Hobart last month."I'm envisioning a pot luck, even a camping trip, sitting around a bonfire sharing stories." Ms Stokes said the party was a chance to start the conversation, and have the nitty gritty documents filled out in a relaxed setting.
Attendees at the party could walk away with a bag of goodies — from info about end of life choices to whoopee cushions. Ms Lyons said funerals didn't need to be restricted to what we commonly associate them with, with getting out into nature, an adventure activity or dancing in the bush options discussed at the party.
