Obesity produces excessive levels of inflammation, decreased blood levels of nitric oxide, and reduced clitoral blood flow and sexual enjoyment. The Mediterranean diet may help alleviate the sexual dysfunction of obese women and reduce blood levels of inflammatory cytokines. The incidence of female sexual dysfunction, at some point in their life, is high—at least 40 percent.
