And if you're considering copying O'Brien's influencer-esque look, Vanis suggests going to a professional.
, O'Brien stars as an obnoxious, overly-online influencer complete with an assortment of patchwork tattoos, including an out-of-this world alien head, and bleach blond hair. That's right, the famed brunette dyed his virgin hair for the first time in his life, just to make his all-too-viral character even more realistic.
"I had no idea what I was getting myself into when we did it," Cynthia Vanis, the hair department head for. "It was his idea. He had a vision like the Pete Davidson-esque guy…our shoot was only a month long, so it was kind of awesome that he was willing to do such a drastic thing for such a short [time]."
The entire process took six hours in the chair and two rounds of bleach to complete. But, the first step in the entire process was perhaps the scariest: shaving O'Brien's head. "He's kind of squirrely as a person, so it was funny to sort of pin him down and you could tell he was kind of nervous but also excited," Vanis laughs. "The first step was already a drastic [change], and then we put the bleach on and we were like 'no turning back now.
