“We playedin the Checkatrade Trophy and that was the first time we heard him be outspoken,” says Harry Burgoyne, the goalkeeper who played alongside Gibbs-White in the club’s academy.
“He was younger than all of us, playing up an age group, and yet he was the voice in the changing room at half-time, demanding better of everybody. So that summed him up as a character. He was 16 or 17 and was telling grown men he wanted more from them. “That’s a big part of why he’s been successful. He’s never happy with a performance. He always wants better.”
