Saraqael, played by comedian, activist, and actor Liz Carr, is a disabled archangel who appears in several episodes of the new season. Saraqael's disability is not taken advantage of to drive home heavy-handed commentary or wasted as an unnecessary plot point; it is never a source of pity, and it does not limit their ability to do the job of an angel or diminish the respect others have for them. Saraqael's disability is not a detractor from their power and authority.
The show also deftly confronts the eternal issue of inaccessibility. In Heaven, Saraqael's wheelchair flies, making accessibility a non-issue. Heaven seamlessly houses its occupants; additional accommodations are unnecessary.
