I’ve stayed in hotels for several months in a row. That’s expensive but I don’t always stay in suites. It depends on the occasion. If I’m celebrating with my girlfriend, I’ll get a suite. If it’s more low key or quick and it’s just myself, I’ll get the best available option. When I stay in hotels forI like interesting buildings with character – I’m less concerned about the star rating.No. I don’t invest in property because I’ve got other ways to invest capital that are more effective.
We, through our own financial hardship, changed that. We were pretty hard-up and I watched my parents struggle with money for the majority of my childhood. My brother Jason smashed his own bedroom window, kicking a football, and it remained smashed for at least five years. I lived anywhere I could get cheap rent. I’d be above a Chinese takeaway, then I’d stay somewhere else for two weeks. I’d pay almost nothing, but even when it was £150 a month, I’d sometimes have to ask my dad to help me pay the rent.
It’s my best business decision because the growth over the last couple of months has been extreme. We’ve raised about $31m, the company is valued at about $160m. It’s very exciting.? I think it’s been number 1 in the US business charts for the last three or four weeks, and it’s been number 1 in the UK charts for just over a year.Many years ago, a kid called Alfonso [Cobo] won a competition to meet me.
