The Jaguars have their franchise QB. And now, they're closing in on a stadium renovation that will keep them in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future. The momentum on each front has solidified the Jags as an organization on the rise, writes jeffphowe.

are confident they’re on the verge of solidifying their future in Jacksonville for generations to come.. And now they’re nearing an important benchmark in the yearslong process of securing a massive stadium renovation.“We’re very confident we’re going to get a solution here in Jacksonville,” Jaguars president Mark Lamping told.

It’s still too early to project a timeline for those negotiations. But if the Jaguars strike a deal with Jacksonville, they can bring the plan to thefor review and approval from the stadium committee, finance committee and a vote from the owners, which would require a yes from at least 24 of 32 teams.

The Jaguars, who have played in the same stadium since their franchise debut in 1995, began the public dialogue in March 2016 to determine the future of the stadium and whether that could be a new build or renovation. Their stadium lease runs through the 2029 season, but owner Shad Khan wanted to ensure the Jaguars had plenty of time to get a proper deal done.

In 2020, the next phase intensified the process as the Jaguars and the city evaluated their stadium to decide whether a renovation or a new build made the most sense. They determined the structure of TIAA Bank Field was strong enough to focus on a large-scale renovation, which would also be significantly less expensive than a new build.
