The NBA All-Star Game and its accompanying events and activities brought in close to $250 million in total economic impact for Northeast Ohio, exceeding financial expectations, according to the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

Contributing to the hype was the fact that this year’s game marked the NBA’s 75th anniversary season. At halftime of the game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, players from all eras of the game were honored. That historical celebration “definitely helped provide a level of excitement and aided in surpassing our original estimated economic impact number,” Gilbert said.

The event also generated more than $50 million in earned media value and received 11.9 billion in total media reach, which includes more than 3,400 news outlets referencing Cleveland alongside the associated All-Star events between Jan. 1 to Feb. 28 worldwide. The NBA All-Star Game was broadcast in 215 countries and territories and a record 60 languages. All-Star Sunday recorded a single-day best 223 million views via Instagram - the highest one-day total for any account on the platform in more than two years.
