A much-anticipated bomb cyclone delivered a potent mix of heavy rain and dangerous winds to the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday and Friday. How much rain did the region actually get?

National Weather Service forecaster Brooke Bingaman said it's challenging to forecast exactly how much rain is going to fall in these storms due to the region's coastal location. Bingaman explained that as storms come off the Pacific Ocean and approach land, it's difficult to determine whether the storm is going to stall over land or whether it has enough momentum to plough across the region.
"The New Year’s Eve storm stalled as it was coming on shore," Bingaman said."The Jan. 4 to 5 storm, the main cold front that went through, went through in a shorter amount of time than we anticipated."-Downtown San Francisco 1.33 inches
