Meet Delhi-based multimedia artist Anoushka David VogueYouthquake
There’s a changing of the guard in fashion and culture. Gen Z creators are pushing the conversation forward in ways both awe-inspiring and audacious. Our latest project,, invites you to discover how these artists, musicians, actors, designers, and models are radically reimagining the future.
It’s an accepted truth that seeing the world, spending time around people, and experiencing life outside home is food for creativity, but the same, it seems, can be true about isolation. Living in a pandemic is undeniably a collective trauma, but artists are discovering transformative truths about who they are and the world around them, and it’s showing in their art.remembers thinking, "anyway, no one's seeing me. I can do whatever I want," right before shaving off all her hair.
Those difficult conversations with herself have been productive and liberating. “I get my inspiration from just uncovering different layers of who I am because I've spent years blocking myself from that. My entire life I've almost felt invisible, so now I express myself through my passions, through my art. And it's not about being seen, it's about being me.”
Anoushka, a Christian, is among one of India’s religious minorities. Christianity in India is a politicized identity, especially under the rule of the BJP, a political party that has historically supported Hindu nationalist policy. While Anoushka uses art and style to challenge outside stereotypes about Indians being conservative, she’s also religious, two ideas that do not compete with one another for her.Her faith has also colored her art.
Anoushka doesn’t know yet what her next steps will be when it comes to her career, but that uncertainty does not deter her. “It's scary that I don't know my future, but at the end of the day, we just don't generally know our future,” she says. “I'm not dependent on anything worldly and neither do I want it.
