With this being your second go-round on the independent front, you obviously have a better grip of what to do now. Also your star power is bigger than when you first started.Being on a major, I now know what's important, because when I was independent in the first place I didn't know about digital. I didn't know about streaming, marketing, press, or any of these things. I was independent and making music hoping that it catches.
It's crazy because they were always there, you know what I mean? I feel like a lot of fans felt that kind of change during the whole label thing, but they've always been there. It's always been vital, and it'll always be vital, whether on a label or not on a label, especially with this transition. Man, that's a great question. I think with growth and time, I just started to realize things. I think the main answer I'm going to give you is. I realized it's the little things that matter, especially when they don't feel as important. Like taking the time to go out or taking the time to treat yourself or taking the time to get some mental space away from things. Years prior to now, I would not allow myself any time.
In this world, there's always going to be that push and pull, no matter who you are or what it is you're going through. I always think we're going to have our battles, right? Everyone has their ups and downs. With me and God, it's always been a push and pull, but, at the end of the day, more now than ever, I pull myself back to reality and I realize that I'm blessed.
