NRL: The NRL 360 crew reveal breaking news on Anthony Seibold's future at the Sea Eagles, with Manly's finals win having a big impact.

When Anthony Seibold was sacked by the Broncos many believed he would never be a head coach in the NRL again, but he now has Manly two games away from a Grand Final.

Bennett took Souths to three preliminary finals and the 2021 Grand Final, but it was another story for his successor at Red Hill, as his so often the case with those following in the footsteps of the super coach. Then fate intervened as Manly’s Pride jersey saga saw them part ways with coach Des Hasler and open up a head coaching opportunity at the Sea Eagles.

His successor at the Broncos, Kevin Walters has made the same number of finals series in four seasons as Seibold did in one and a half. Manly assistant Michael Ennis joined the club in 2024 and knows better than most what Seibold has brought to the Manly club and what he has learned from his NRL exodus.

“He certainly has a lot of conversation with them throughout the week in terms of what the preparation looks like and also the style of play that we’re looking at week to week. At the time it appeared a return to the NRL head coaching ranks would be a long way off, but Ennis believes that tough period could be the making of Seibold as a head coach.

“And then to have those ups and downs as a head coach early on with the highs of South Sydney, and then those tough periods at Brisbane. Ennis was impressed by what he saw from Brooks from pre-season and has marvelled at his ability to develop his combinations with the other key players in the Manly spine in such short time.

“Understandably, both guys are in their 30s coming together and gelling together, but I think the two of them as well as the coaches were blown away with just how quick their chemistry came together.“When we’ve played our best footy this year if you look at different sets in different periods of the game, they’re often together. Playing on both sides of the field together and linking up and combining.

There were plenty of eyebrows raised when Seibold and Manly signed Luke Brooks, given they already had a halfback in captain Daly Cherry-Evans. “Not only in himself as a player but the players around him and how he could use them and the combinations that he built over the summer were laid out there in the opening round of the competition without all that pressure lumped on him, being the No.7.

It is a massive turnaround after Seibold reportedly stormed out of a meeting with the club after talks stalled with Manly sitting 12th on the ladder late in the season. “The trip to Vegas was new for everyone and I thought that Seibs was very thorough and organised with all the administration staff to make that as easy as possible for the players, Ennis said.

“Having Origin this year where both the captains of the states were from our club, and so their involvement is increased dramatically,” Ennis explained.“They’re not just obviously one of the players, the commitments, the responsibility and the mental drain that comes with being a captain of your state, whilst it was a great reward for our boys, certainly no doubt that was a taxing period.
