Dodgers rookie James Outman, a Bay Area native, shines in outfield alongside Mookie Betts, Jason Heyward.
SAN FRANCISCO — It took one at-bat for Dodgers rookie James Outman to get the better of a hero from his Bay Area childhood.
Outman, tapping into the aggression that was his hallmark as a high school middle linebacker, is making an early bid as baseball’s top rookie. The 25-year-old outfielder is hitting .300 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 11 games. His 1.262 OPS ranks third in MLB. He made a four-game big league cameo last summer, homering in his first at-bat, but was sent back to Triple-A after the brief call-up.“It was a wild week for me, so I didn’t feel like I had time to have any emotions at all,” he said. “I was thankful for the opportunity and I was excited to get back to Triple-A and work on what I learned.”
