Home heating oil is used by two-thirds of households in Northern Ireland
A new £100 payment for home heating oil customers in Northern Ireland has been announced amid the rising cost of living.
The Consumer Council has said heating oil currently costs more than £520 for 500 litres, compared to around £220 a year ago.It was announced last month that oil customers in Northern Ireland would receive a one-off payment of £100 to help with increasing energy bills, but it was criticised by many politicians as being inadequate compared to the £400 Energy Bills Support payment, which is going to all UK households.
Do I have to apply for it? No, it's expected like other forms of support it will be automatically applied to your bills with no need to apply. Why are people with oil receiving less money than gas customers? When government support was initially announced, the reason for focusing on gas and electric was due to costs in these areas becoming greater, while oil prices remained steady to an extent.
