"If elected, Beto will destroy hundreds of thousands of energy jobs in Texas and destroy the livelihoods of families throughout the state," said Mark Miner, Abbott's Communications Director., when he touted the Green New Deal proposal by liberal Democrats aimed at getting the nation off fossil fuels.

"They are taking you for granted," O'Rourke told the crowd in Muleshoe, a sentence that was repeated at almost every stop on his tour as he tried to chip away at Abbott's overwhelming support.
