Residents in every state but Tasmania and Queensland have been eligible for an influenza jab for the month of June.Influenza A is a particularly nasty virus spreading around Australia.New South Wales Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant urged people in her state to book in now.
"The vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community from the harmful effects of influenza"Only about one in three people in NSW have received their influenza vaccine this year and we really need to see that number go up, especially among vulnerable groups such as young children and older people who are most at risk of severe illness.Chant said she expected to see a surge of influenza through winter and into spring.
More than 3000 GP clinics and pharmacies will have the option to offer the government-funded vaccines.
