As we head into another fall and winter that are feeling a lot like last year, you may feel like your body, habits, and physical and mental health have never fully returned to what they were before COVID. A registered dietitian's advice: advice:

At the doctor’s office recently, the nurse weighed me and said, “That’s 5 pounds heavier than last time you were here.”“Well, the pandemic happened,” I said. “I baked a lot this past year. And I guess I ate a lot too.”

We both ended up chuckling about it. But I couldn’t help but wonder how many other patients were on the receiving end of that kind of comment -- and how many didn’t feel like laughing about it.. At the time, many of us thought we were in a short-term crisis, something that would alter our routines temporarily.

But as we head into another fall and winter that are feeling a lot like last year, you may feel like your body, habits, and physical and mental health have never fully returned to what they were before COVID. And that might feel frustrating. Here’s some advice:Some people have used this time to start new exercise regimens or overhaul their eating. If that’s you, great. But for most of us, extreme changes will only add more stress in an already stressful time.
