In the upcoming switch to live-action, How to Train Your Dragon will have one of the key original creatives returning from the animated movie.

The How to Train Your Dragon live-action film will bring back one of the key players from the original film’s creative team. How to Train Your Dragon was originally released as a DreamWorks animated film back in 2010. The film was followed by two similarly successful sequels. Universal has officially announced that they would be adapting How to Train Your Dragon into a live-action film, which is set for release on March 14, 2025.

How to Train Your Dragon's original composer, John Powell, announces that he will return for the live-action project. Powell himself posted the news to his Instagram. His score for How to Train Your Dragon is iconic, earning him numerous awards including an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.

Powell is not the only one returning to the dragon world for How to Train Your Dragon. Dean DeBlois, who directed all three of the films in the original trilogy, will return to direct, write, and produce the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon. The new film will cover the same plot as the 2010 installment, tracking the meeting and growing bond between Viking boy Hiccup and Night Fury dragon Toothless.

With a shared plot and key players with the original series, How to Train Your Dragon 2025 has already set itself up for success. Casting has begun for the live-action DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon ensemble. If cast well, this live-action installment could mirror the same charm and appeal as the original animated film. Time will tell as How to Train Your Dragon continues its development.
