Savvy buyers can score a bargain bottle in time for Father's Day, writes Des Houghton.
There are wines under $100 - and many under $50 - with great power and appeal that would make outstanding gifts. And there are some Father’s Day bargains under $20.
One critic, Nick Stock, said it was “sleek and fleshy” and “reminiscent of Penfolds RWT”, which sells for $200 a bottle. There is power and drinkability too in Tim Adams' 2018 Aberfeldy Shiraz with ripe berry, plum and chocolate flavours intermingled with hints of clove, and vanilla oak. Grant Burge Filsell Shiraz 2020 is consistently good. Stansborough excels again with another Australian favourite - Grant Burge Holy Trinity Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2020 .It is a Southern Rhone blend with fruit selected from dry-grown vines, which range from 35 to 100 years old.
