Mitch Barnett shared an emotional celebration with his Warriors teammates after he earnt a call-up into Michael Maguire ’s NSW squad for the 2024 Origin series opener .
The 30-year-old earnt himself a six-week suspension for an ugly swinging arm tackle on Panthers forward Chris Smith in 2022 dubbed a “moment of madness”. His move to the Warriors came at a time when many players were abandoning ship post-Covid, unwilling to leave Australia for the club’s Auckland base in 2023.
The footage was shared to social media platform X, and Webster couldn’t contain himself before Warriors players swarmed the player affectionately known as ‘Barney’. “Even though half of them go for Queensland, it’s just awesome. I’m just so grateful that they are my teammates.” In Webster’s first season in charge last year, the Warriors were only 80 minutes away from a grand final appearance after finishing in fourth after the regular season.
