John Howard, Tony Abbott and Amanda Vanstone addressed Liberal MPs at Parliament House on Monday, as the Coalition begins a long road back from its election defeat.
, Tony Abbott and Amanda Vanstone addressed the depleted ranks of the Opposition on Monday, in a bid to lift spirits and offer advice on how to win back government.
Mr Howard drew a historical perspective, saying first terms for new governments were notoriously difficult and circumstances would determine if the Albanese government succeeded or failed. He said the Coalition needed to present itself as a viable alternative to capitalise on any such failure by Labor.
“We’re not really interested in that. What we are interested in is getting solutions to people for the challenges that are there and we will be doing that.”In a meeting with teal independents, Mr Albanese held firm on a controversial plan to reduce staffing allocations for MPs outside the major parties.
Jacqui Lambie and newly elected Lambie Network senator Tammy Tyrrell are also expected to receive six advisers, up from the traditional allocation of five for senators.
