Former prime minister John Howard has come back for seconds after chastising Treasurer Jim Chalmers for trying to “shift blame” regarding interest rates.
Former prime minister John Howard has doubled down on his scathing assessment of Treasurer Jim Chalmers ' attempt to place the inflation blame at the feet of the RBA Governor.The former prime minister echoed his written rebuke of the Treasurer’s"opportunistic and quite disloyal remarks" against RBA Governor Michele Bullock , who was appointed with high regard from both sides of parliament.
“If you’re trying to control inflation, you don’t do so by pushing up the level of government spending. The former prime minister declared it “staggers” him that Mr Chalmers said he was “justified” to place the blame of inflation on households at the feet of Ms Bullock, as the high level of government spending was the “major reason” for the “painful impact” on loan borrowers.
