Held in February at High Tech High School in Secaucus, it was the first time since the pandemic that the annual bee took place on a live stage.
As Hudson County champion, she’s set to represent the county in the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, which begins Tuesday, May 30, and concludes with the finals on Thursday, June 1. In all, 231 spellers from across the country and beyond are expected to compete.
Kavya’s winning spirit is evident, said Gina Hulings, director of the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs and Tourism Development, which sponsored the Hudson bee and is sponsoring Kavya’s trip to the national bee.
