A teenager has been slapped with $35,000 in fines and told he “did not care about the community” after travelling from Sydney to Byron Bay with his father while infected with COVID19, sparking a seven-day lockdown.
Kristian Radovanovic, 19, did not appear at Waverley Local Court on Monday as he is currently in Serbia with his 52-year-old father, Zoran.
Zoran became ill while in Byron Bay and thought he was suffering asthma before eventually succumbing to the Covid-19 symptoms and being admitted to Lismore Base Hospital where he was diagnosed with the virus.Radovanovic and his sister also tested positive to the virus and spent 10 days in a separate isolation room to their father.
“They are to ensure effective and rapid responses when there is a serious public health threat,” Sergeant Wade said. The court heard the teenager had been on three previous Community Correction Orders and a Community Release Order for a range of unrelated charges including affray, drive with middle-range PCA, police pursuit and resist a police officer.
Mr Mulroney said Covid-19 had been a matter of public knowledge for almost two years with “repeated coverage of its changes, permutation and impacts in our community”.
