A Victorian multicultural commissioner says he will file a human rights complaint against a beachside venue for discrimination after they refused him entry based on his clothing.
Shankar Kasynathan says Hotel Sorrento staff refused him entry because he was not wearing a "collared shirt"Hotel Sorrento says Mr Kasynathan's accusation is "absolutely incorrect"
"We were told that we didn't have collared shirts on, so we couldn't enter," he told ABC Radio Melbourne. He then said he was responded to "dismissively", and was told police would remove him from the venue if he did not leave. "They were dressed in a manner that did not meet the hotel's dress requirements that come into effect at 5:00pm each night. They were refused entry for this reason.
When the ABC checked the dress code on the Hotel Sorrento website on Monday, there was no mention of a curfew, there were separate male and female dress codes, and no restriction on "collared shirts" for men — but a restriction on "singlets".
