A human skeleton has been shockingly discovered underneath a former department store
. A building site in Gloucester unearthed the chilling remains during a transformation.
The former Debenhams store in the city's King Square is currently a construction site for the University of Gloucester to build a new campus but one eagle-eyed person spotted skeletal remains in the ground as workmen completed excavation, reports GloucesterLive. It was believed the shop was built on an old cemetery that could date back to the middle ages, archaeologists revealed last year. The public have also been assured any remains found will be preserved by the construction firm Morgan Sindall.
It was a worker on the upper floors of a building opposite to the site that snapped a photo as the bones can be seen. The remnants of a skull and ribcage can be seen buried under the dirt as workers look on. A Morgan Sindall Construction spokesperson said: "As we are in the process of excavating a medieval cemetery we are working closely with local archaeologists to ensure any skeletal remains we find are preserved.Top news stories today Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - sign up to our daily newsletter here.
