The SNP leader has been in office for just over a year but walks away rather than lose a confidence vote in the Scottish Parliament.
Humza Yousaf has resigned as First Minister today rather than risking losing a vote of no confidence in the Scottish Parliament.
The no confidence vote was to take place this week at Holyrood and was triggered by Yousaf ending his Scottish Government partnership with the Greens.The pro-independence Greens, furious about their treatment with the Greens, supported the bid to topple him. The former SNP leader and deputy first minister was asked at a Resolution Foundation event in London if he would like to take over from Humza Yousaf.
Forbes would be favourite but her social conservatism - she said she would have voted against gay marriage - would rip the SNP apart.Green co-leader Patrick Harvie had said that Humza Yousaf is no longer "in a position to lead".The no confidence vote was sparked by Yousaf ending his coalition with the Greens.
It is understood Yousaf is not keen to do a deal with Alex Salmond’s Alba, which has one MSP, and resignation is an option.Jack Trainner was found with serious injuries in a common close on Brookfield Road in Port Glasgow at around 9.05pm on Saturday.A 17-year-old girl was arrested at the house and is helping officers with their investigation.The Daily Record has been been told by a senior party source Yousaf will quit following media reports.
