The Unity Hall Hotel at Balmain will be closed for a week after it was caught hosting two birthday parties and failing to follow its COVIDSafe plan, one day after receiving a penalty notice for a restrictions breach | marywardy

Patrons at the party were seen on CCTV footage dancing, mingling closely and celebrating at one of the birthdays. Liquor and Gaming authorities reviewed the footage and issued the venue a $10,000 fine.Advertisement

"The standards of the hotel required by the health authorities is very high, but we recognise that the consequences of this virus are severe and not to be taken lightly."Credit:The hotel said they had implemented "a number" of procedures beyond what was required in their COVIDSafe plan since the breaches, and looked forward to reopening next Wednesday.

Last month, the Unity Hotel was fined $5000 for breaching public health orders. At the time, Liquor & Gaming NSW inspectors visited the venue and found a lack of social distancing, an out-of-date safety plan and improper recording of patrons’ details, among the breaches."I really am frustrated because the vast majority are doing the right thing," Ms Berejiklian told"But you have to have three strikes before we shut you down. So that's really disappointing.
