Today marks Slavery Remembrance Day, where hundreds joined the city's African diaspora on a Walk of Remembrance

"This is not just a day, this is our whole life," Andrew Lynch, son of legendary activist Eric, announced to the gathered crowd ahead of the Walk of Remembrance.

"We are also here as part of our fight against racism and inequality. This is not a protest. This is a remembrance. An act of healing, a very positive act. You are all very welcome here." This allowed some of the city's most talented and respected historians and activists to speak about Liverpool's own history as the centre of the transatlantic slave trade.

The final part of the walk saw everyone move onto Canning Dock for the Libation ceremony - a commemorative ritual to honour and remember the ancestors before us. The crowd threw flowers and alcohol into the Mersey with cries of "for our ancestors, long may they rest".
