Taliban security beat back confused crowds at Kabul's passport office where hundreds of Afghans gathered after news that services would resume this week
Afghans gather outside the passport office after Taliban officials announced they will start issuing passports to its citizens again, following months of delays that hampered attempts by those trying to flee the country after the Taliban seized control, in Kabul, Afghanistan on October 6, 2021.
"I have come to get a passport but, as you can see here, there are lots of problems, the system is not working," one applicant, Mahir Rasooli, said outside the office.A spokesman for the Taliban officials running the passport department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.Growing poverty and hunger
The hundreds who descended on the passport office came despite advice that distribution of passports would only begin on Saturday, and initially only for those who had already applied.
