Hundreds of COVID-positive cruise passengers dock in Sydney

Hundreds of COVID-19 positive passengers who disembarked the Majestic Princess cruise ship in Sydney on Saturday were asked not to take public transport to their destination, the operator says.

Fitzgerald said elevated case numbers were observed about halfway through the voyage, prompting mass testing of “everybody”, as per their guidelines. NSW Health said on Friday night that it had assessed the Majestic Princess’ COVID-19 risk level as “tier three”, which is the highest in its cruise ship classification and indicates a “high level of transmission”. Tier three means more than 10 per cent of those onboard had tested positive.Princess Cruises is a subsidiary of Carnival.

“Carnival has advised NSW Health that they are assisting passengers with COVID-19 to make safe onward travel arrangements,” it said.
