Hundreds of security guards will be brought in to improve safety at Services Australia centres after a staff member was allegedly stabbed in the back while at work.

Hundreds of security guards will be funded through a new $314 million Albanese government investment to improve safety at Services Australia centres after a staff member was violently attacked.

The money will help fund up to 606 security guards and a centralised security operations centre featuring live monitoring capabilities due to CCTV upgrades. Thirty-five service centres deemed"at risk of high levels of customer aggression" will further receive an"enhanced service centre design". She was allegedly stabbed while working at a service centre in the Westfield shopping centre in Airport West, in Melbourne.

"But in reality that would never have happened because it took what happened to me to make this happen."
