More than 260,000 Toyota owners are being contacted from Monday, and invited to register their interest to receive thousands of dollars in compensation, following a landmark Federal Court ruling in April. 7NEWS
The class action alleged the vehicles sold between October 2015 and April 2020 had defective diesel particulate filter systems, leaving owners out of pocket.Starting from Monday, court-approved notices will be sent via email, text message and post, to people who acquired one or more of the affected Toyota models.
The messages will invite affected customers to register for compensation as part of the successful class action brought against Toyota. In a Federal Court judgment, Justice Michael Lee found 264,170 drivers who bought some of the brand’s top-selling cars were eligible for a payout. “I am thrilled with today’s judgment, particularly that the court has found that hundreds of thousands of ordinary Australian consumers who bought these vehicles are entitled to be awarded damages for the losses they suffered as a result,” he said.- With AAP
